The Effects of Using Illustrative Instructional Texts in English on the Comprehension of Selected Grade One Pupils
Synopsis
The general purpose of this study is to identify how illustrative instructional texts in English influence the comprehension of grade one pupils who have different reading levels as revealed by the Philippine Informal Reading Inventory (Phil-IRI) assessment results. After determining the pupils' reading levels, the study exposed one group of 15 pupils to illustrative texts, while the other group used the conventional texts without support of illustration. The Phil- IRI post-test was administered to both groups to find out whether there were differences in their comprehension scores.
