Focus and Scope of the Press

^{The open publication system of the Philippine Normal University-Publication Office (PNU-PO) shall uphold the vision of the Office to provide more access to knowledge and overcome education barrier by providing literature and knowledge sources in digital format to have better readership and reach. The system shall host Instructional Materials (Textbooks/Sourcebooks/Reference books, Workbooks/Manuals/Handbook, Self-Learning Manual/Module) authored by the faculty of the University and are currently used as either prescribed text materials or supplementary materials in their respective courses. The system will also house Monographs (technical reports of research completed by faculty and staff as well as research series written by faculty and staff from their respective research projects). Theses and Dissertations will also be available on this platform.}

Open Access Policy

^{This press provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.}

Review Policy

_{The whole process is divided into three parts: (1) preproduction, (2) production, and (3) post-production.}

Preproduction

_{This stage is under the supervision of UCMIMO in accordance to the guidelines pertaining to the development of instructional materials (BOR Resolution No. U-2153, s. 2014). Pre-production involves the generation of manuscript through a proposal submitted to UCMIMO and initial evaluation of the product by the UCMIMO.  This stage includes: 1) the development of the IM and Review and Evaluation of the IM. In the development stage, the proponent(s) conceptualize, design, and field test the IM. The review and evaluation phase commence with the initial evaluation of the faculty/institute assembly. The approved IM will be subjected to authenticity testing by the Publication Office. A second round of review be external evaluators will be conducted with the revised manuscript. After all suggestions and comments by the external reviewers are addressed and the revised manuscript submitted, a second round of authenticity testing will be conducted.  The results of the second round of authenticity testing and the revisions made from external evaluation will be the bases for UCMIMO's decision and recommendations to the Publication Office on the publication status of the manuscript, whether the manuscript will be uploaded to the Online Monograph System as part of the subscription database or will be subjected to another round of review for probable open access monograph publication both online and in print.}

_{Upon UCMIMO's recommendation, the author should submit an e-copy of the product to the online monograph system of the Philippine Normal University - Publication Office.}

Production

Manuscript Stage

_{As soon as the e-copy is received from the author, PNU-PO records the submission and subjects the manuscript to the first level of editing which  includes both mechanical and content editing, posting questions addressed to the author and/or reviewer, when necessary. As per recommendation of UCMIMO, all manuscripts for subscription database will be published online by the Publication Office using the Open Monograph System on a subscription basis.}

_{All manuscripts tagged by UCMIMO as for Open Access, shall be subjected to external blind review by at least two reviewers. Reviews may take about a month. The reviewer does an in-depth content validation making sure that the manuscript is free from conceptual errors. All the reviews done by the reviewer will also be validated by the editor (and the author, if needed). Once all the comments by the editor and reviewer has been addressed and validated by the author, the manuscript is subjected to authenticity test. If an accepted percentage of similarity is achieved, the manuscript will be sent to the copyeditor. The copyeditor does further mechanical editing and checks if the manuscript is ready for layout. It then goes back to the editor who prepares the manuscript and other elements (such as illustration and images) for layout.}

Proof Stage

_{The manuscript is then sent to the layout artist, who generates the proofs. Proofs are basically the draftsof the final print material. This means the manuscript now looks like what you will see as a textbook/module/handbook. At this stage, the proofs bounce back and forth from the layout artist to the editor for proofreading and revisions. Before preparing the print-ready version of the proofs, the editor implores the help of other editors to plain read and spot for errors in the proofs. Once all the errors have been corrected, the layout artist does a final print-ready version to be sent to the post-production.}

Post-production

_{Here, the print-ready is uploaded as an e-copy in the Open Monograph System (Books and IMs) and linked to students' LMS accounts for their access. Imprints will be taken charge of PBDO for marketing purposes.}
