The Impact of e-SIM on Retention Rate of Poorly Performing Grade Six Students in Learning Adjectives
Synopsis
Technology integration and self-paced learning has been increasingly used in classroom setting in recent years. This study describes the use of e-SIM as an alternative to traditional remedial class and its impact to the retention rate of selected grade 6 poorly performing students. An analysis among pre-test, posttest and delayed posttest showed that, on average, scores gathered from the control group were higher than the experimental group. Further analysis indicates that students' posttest and delayed posttest scores were weakly and positively correlated while using e-SIM. Findings suggest that using e-SIM single-handedly may not guarantee its full potential. Teachers may need to proactively model, scaffold and support students if it is to be of benefit
