Critical Thinking Skills in Problem Solving of Grade Eight Students in Mathematics
Synopsis
The study aimed to describe the critical thinking in problem solving of selected grade eight students in Mathematics particularly the level of critical thinking skill in problem solving of the participants in terms of analyzing the problem situation, making decision, monitoring progress and evaluating the completed solution. Moreover, the study sought to determine if there was a significant difference between the level of critical thinking skills in problem solving when the participants were grouped according to gender and mathematical ability. A descriptive research method was used since the data obtained were narrative descriptions and observations occurring in more natural and less controlled research setting. Stratified sampling was utilized in selecting the population of the study. There were two instruments used in this study. The critical thinking test that was given to the students as an effective basis for evaluation to show the level of their critical thinking on problem solving skills and scoring rubrics which were used to know the critical thinking on solutions made by the students.
