Development and Validation of a Webquest on Conic Section

Synopsis

The main purpose of this study is to develop and validate a WebQuest on conic sections. Specifically, it sought to develop and validate a WebQuest on conic sections. Specifically, to: (1) develop a WebQuest on conic sections; (2) validate the WebQuest with the help of experts in mathematics and educational technology; and (3) evaluate the effectiveness of the WebQuest as perceived by students after using the WebQuest. Four phases were undertaken in this study, namely: preparation stage; development stage; validation stage; and try-out stage. The development of the WebQuest followed the steps prescribed by the San Diego State University webpage were WebQuests originated. The key elements of a WebQuests were all included in the developed material. The difficulties encountered by students in studying conic sections were considered in the development stage of the WebQuest. The respondents of the study were 3 experts, and 92 students of San Beda College Alabang. The WebQuest was validated by the three experts using the evaluation tool adapted from Zunal.com. The perceptions of the student respondents were obtained using a survey questionnaire. The data obtained were analyzed by using descriptive data analysis procedure. Findings revealed that the WebQuest is appropriate for classroom instruction. The WebQuest has been deemed effective in guiding students and in engaging students in learning mathematics. It fosters constructivism in learning through an interactive learning environment where the students get to build knowledge through their experience.
