Development of Synchronous Computer-Mediated-Communication Material for Teaching Social Formulas and Introductions

^{The Instructional Material for SCMC is focused on developing communicative tasks activities to be used in an interactive Video Class of elementary ESL students. Its development will incorporate techniques and principles in Communicative Tasks to best achieve both speaking and listening skills. This research is focused on three goals, mainly: to produce communicative tasks activities for Social Formulas and Introductions on Synchronous Computer-Mediated-Communication (SCMC) video; to develop an instructional material appropriate for SCMC class; and to determine and evaluate the instructional material for SCMC communicative tasks.}

^{The descriptive method of research was used in this study and was  based on the five stages of development of instructional materials by Tomlinson (1989) anchored together with Nunan’s (1989) Designing Tasks for  Communicative Classroom for its checklist. A needs analysis survey was developed, validated and administered to find out the learners’ needs on communicative input and tasks on SCMC suitable on video class using social formulas and introductions. Interviews, video class observation and a needs analysis survey were provided and conducted on the first semester of S.Y. 2013-2014 to get the necessary requirements for the materials preparation. The survey consisted of twenty questions with 4-point rating scale for the content, language and style, format and design. The book series Junior Phone and Talk with its strategies and approaches was adopted and integrated by the researcher. Changes and integration were made on the instructional materials based on the feedback given.}
