Reading Guides for Biology to Facilitate the Reading Comprehension of Grade VII Students

The study aimed to develop reading guides for Biology to help facilitate comprehension of the students from a secondary laboratory school. The objective of the study are to prepare reading guides for Grade 7 Biology, validate the reading guides, and revise the reading guides based on the validation data from the teachers. It used descriptive developmental methodologies to gather data for the study. The design had four stages namely pre-development, development, validation, and revision. Major findings of the study reveal that the development process is effective in producing reading guides for Science texts, sections of the reading guide led the students to focus on the important details of the text. The developed reading guides were highly rated by the teacher-participant who also used the reading guides in their Grade VII classes. Student feedbacks of the developed guides were very positive. Further research on the effect of reading guides for Biology to facilitate reading comprehension of Grade VII students should be done.
