Effects of Outdoor Mathematics on the Enthusiasm, Attitude and Achievement of Grade Six Pupils

This study investigated the effects of outdoor mathematics on the enthusiasm, attitude and mathematics achievement of Grade Six pupils. The study involved grade six students of Jose Zavalla Memorial Elementary School in the City of Santa Rosa Laguna for school year 2015-2016. The study used the experimental design specifically the pre-test-post-test control group design. It involved 35 students in the experimental group and another 35 students in the control group randomly chosen from intact groups selected by the lottery method. The research instruments used were the Enthusiasm Scale (Appendix I), Attitude Scale (Appendix H) and Mathematics Achievement Test (Appendix G). The t-test for dependent and independent samples were run on the data gathered to determine the significant difference in the pretest and posttest mean scores of the respondents in the three instruments used. Findings reveal that posttest mean scores of the experimental and control group are significantly different in terms of enthusiasm and attitude, while there is no significant difference in terms of mathematics achievement. The results show that outdoor mathematics help the learner develop positive attitude and enthusiasm towards mathematics. However, outdoor mathematics has no significant effect on students' mathematics achievement.
