Environmental Awareness, Attitude and Achievement through Nature-Based Learning

Environmental education is a long-term process of developing skills and behavior necessary to understand and accept the relationships between people, culture and the natural environment. This requires a good curriculum, competent teachers, and effective strategies to attain optimum learning of the students. The Science for Grade 10 of the K-12 Basic Education Program provides an opportunity for students to think of ways on how to minimize human impact to the environment which led the researcher to develop a Nature-Based Learning Module (NBLM) that aims to influence students' environmental awareness, attitude, and achievement. The developed NBLM was used by 30 Grade 10 students of Masagana High School, Pandi, Bulacan and visited three (3) environmentally-threatened area in the nearby barangays of the the school. Another set of students, the control group, used the DepEd prescribed Science Learner's Manual. The Environmental Attitude Scale and Environmental Achievement Test were used to determine the pretest and posttest scores of the respondents. The pretests and posttest were analyzed using the Single Factor: Analysis of Variance. The developed NBLM's content and physical properties were evaluated and validated by seven (7) experts and thirty (30) students who used the module. The NBLM was modified base on the recommendations of the expert evaluators.
