Proposed Career Maturity Development Program for Secondary Students in K to 12 Curriculum

This descriptive developmental research examined the career maturity of secondary students under the new K to 12 curriculum, with a total of 195 grades nine to eleven students from a Private Sectarian School participating in the study, who were given the Career Needs Assessment Survey, a questionnaire developed by Private Education Assistance Committee (PEAC.) The Student Information Sheet was utilized to obtain data on other variables such as sex, grade level, student's career preference and occupation of parents, the results of which became the bases for designing the proposed career maturity development program. Frequency, mean, percentage, independent T-test and one way analysis of variance were the statistical treatments used. Findings show that the career maturity of the respondents was not yet established as revealed by the data on their self- assessment, career awareness, career exploration, career planning, and decision-making. Likewise, significant differences on several variables involving sex and grade levels were determined, and these were appropriately considered in developing a proposed career maturity development program. For future research, it is recommended that the proposed program be implemented to evaluate its effectiveness, and to study parental roles in guiding their children for productive career choices in life.
