Synopsis

College life offers challenging tasks and demanding academic requirements that many students find it difficult to succeed. Many of them become academically at risk students (ARS) who need assistance to reach their goals. Hence, the purpose of this study is to develop, validate, try-out, implement, and assess an intervention program on the learning strategies of these students so that they can be assisted by the school. Through a descriptive-developmental research design, the study identified 37 participants chosen purposively based on interview and academic probation checklist used by the Guidance and Counseling Center. These data served as basis for designing the modules which were used in the intervention program. Said modules were validated by 4 experts in the discipline and rated by the process observers, the results of which led to the revision and finalization of the modules, which were then tried out and implemented among identified participants. Their assessment showed that the modules were helpful in making them strategic students and equipping them with a repertoire of strategies to survive college life. It is therefore recommended that further research be conducted on the use of the modules for other sample population like students from other programs (e.g. College of Business Education, College of Technology and other Engineering Programs) to determine its effectiveness. Also, a research on the evaluation of the program implementation may be done for its improvement or further adaptation needed.
