From Burning Bright To Burning Out: Understanding Filipino Teacher Burnout Through A Mixed Methods Perspective
Synopsis
In the study of the understanding the progress of the burnout phenomenon in the teaching profession, Maslach and Leiter (1999) concluded that the most valuable and most costly part of an educational system are the people who teach; thus, maintaining their well-being and their contribution to student education should be a primary objective of educational leaders. The challenge of maintaining teacher's positive emotional state is tantamount to ensuring harmony between the sum of specific environmental factors on the one hand, and the personal needs and expectations of teachers on the other hand (Bricheno, Brown, & Lubansky, 2009).
