PCK in Science

Pedagogical Content Knowledge is an important perspective a teacher should possess in order to deliver the goals of learning. This learning pack aims to present PCK and how this is important in the realization of K+12 curriculum goals specifically in the Sciences. Inquiry-Based learning and teaching is presented here as an alternative to traditional teaching practices that may improve PCK of teachers. The learning pack includes three (3) lessons. Lesson 1 is focused on PCK while lesson 2 introduces science in K+12 curriculum. Lesson 2 presents the story line of Grade 7 Science and the spiral learning across content and across levels. Lesson 3 promotes Inquiry-Based Learning and Teaching as a means to achieve the goals of K+12 curriculum. The learning pack comes with activities that would train teachers in the three basic foci of K+12: (1) PCK; (2) K+12 Science Story Line; and (3)IBL. These will be very helpful in preparing the teachers to design lessons anchored on IBL’s 5E’s which may be significant in the delivery of lessons in the K+12 curriculum. Finally, a holistic summary is also provided to wrap up the whole pack as well as to jump start the next learning pack.
