Synopsis
The Philippines, known as an archipelago consisting of 7, 107 islands, benefitsfrom the enormity of oceans and seas surrounding its territories. It has beenundoubtedly bestowed with the richness of natural resources thriving in those enormouswater bodies. With this, fishing has been one of the most important industries inPhilippine economy. It has become an important source of livelihood for it providedemployment to millions of Filipinos. According to Philippine Economic - Environmentaland Natural Resources Accounting (PEENRA, 2014), “being labor intensive, municipalfishing generated 68 percent of the total employment, followed by aquaculture with 26percent and commercial fishing with 6 percent”. Fishery is always included in thenational development policy priorities of the country.
