Crisis Decision-Making Framework for Millennial School Heads

Millennial school heads are taking over leadership roles in education and with the changes brought by the pandemic and the fast-evolving technologies, their crisis decision-making patterns, strategies, attitudes and influences were investigated towards a crisis decision-making framework. The study used a mixed-method procedure wherein the qualitative part is phenomenological in design and involved nine (9) millennial school heads in in-depth semi-structured interviews and ten (10) millennial master teachers and coordinators in focus group discussions while the quantitative part used adapted questionnaires in decision-making styles and self-efficacy. Their crises include student academic and teacher professional challenges, parental support and community engagement challenges, administrative and policy implementation challenges, financial resource constraints, and school safety and infrastructure challenges, and revealed that their decisions are generally empathetic, reflective, ethical, strategic, collaborative and teacher and student-centered. They are mostly influenced by stakeholder involvement, politics and policy dynamics, student-teacher success, resource management and personal values and spiritual beliefs. Millennial school heads are advocates of shared decision-making, responsibility and governance to ensure equitable, ethical, moral and inclusive decisions which are based on their objectivity and spiritual orientation.
