An Ethnography of Teacher-Led School: Emerging Values, Norms and Beliefs for Quality Education
Synopsis
This ethnographic study examines how the leadership of a teacher-in-charge, grounded in values such as empathy, humility, lifelong learning, passion for hard work, and servant leadership, shapes school culture and enhances performance. These values, expressed through norms like collaboration, active listening, and ethical behavior, contributed to a positive, inclusive environment. Aligned with the Philippine Professional Standards for School Heads (PPSSH), the teacher’s leadership skills—strategic planning, resource management, inclusive education, and disaster preparedness—played a key role in improving school outcomes, including retention, graduation, and participation rates. The study highlights the importance of integrating values-based leadership into school administration and recommends continuous leadership training, policy enhancement, and community involvement to sustain progress. Future research should explore the long-term impact of value systems on educational quality and their alignment with global standards.
