Writer's Workshop Remedial Instruction for Senior High School ESL Learners
Synopsis
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the Writer’s Workshop Remedial Instruction on the English writing skills of the senior high school low achievers. The researcher used the Mixed Method Approach.The remedial instruction adapted the Writer’s Workshop Framework and this framework consisted of Mini-Lessons, Frequent Writing Time, Conferences, and Sharing. The data of the study for the written outputs were analyzed using the Six-Trait Writing Rubric adapted from Spandel, Content Analysis, and Paired T-test was also used to measure the statistical mean difference before and after the remediation. Frequency and mean were also used to compute the respondents’ impressions on the remedial instruction.The study indicated that there were statistically significant differences in the writing scores of the respondents from the pre-test to the post-test. The researcher concluded that low achiever learners can improve their writing abilities if a remediation is conducted over an extended amount of time. Moreover, the summary of the learners’ impressions on the Writers’ Workshop Remediation Instruction confirms that the remediation has a positive impact on the learner’s motivation and interest to learn and improve their writing skills.
