Developing a Learning Playlist for Magnetic Fields as a Supplementary Material for Junior High School
Synopsis
This developmental study aimed to design and validate a 5E-based learning playlist on Magnetic Fields using short-form videos as supplementary material for Junior High School Physics. Magnetic fields are inherently abstract and often difficult for learners to visualize, leading to persistent misconceptions; thus, multimedia support is essential (Mayer, 2005). Short-form videos, when concise and well-structured, can enhance microlearning, engagement, and conceptual clarity while minimizing cognitive load (Sweller, 1988;Buzzetto-More, 2015). The study followed a descriptive developmental design. A total of nine (9) short-form videos were curated and aligned with the Engage, Explore, Explain, and Elaborate phases of the 5E Instructional Model. The playlist was validated by three subject matter experts using a quantitative evaluation tool measuring accuracy, clarity, and pedagogical appropriateness.
Descriptive statistics were used to summarize the validation results. Findings showed high mean ratings across criteria, indicating strong content validity and instructional usefulness. The experts affirmed that the playlist effectively integrates short-form videos with inquiry-based learning, supporting visualization of magnetic field patterns and real-world applications. The study concludes that a carefully curated 5E-aligned playlist can serve as an effective supplementary material for enhancing JHS Physics learning.
