Case Study of House Parents of Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL): Psychological Implication

Synopsis

Lived experiences of the house parents inside the rehabilitation center plays an important role in determining the implications and intervention to be provided to children in conflict with the law (CICL). This research case study gathered seven (7) house parents as the participants in the middle adulthood. The said participants were from Laguna, specifically from two (2) centers namely Pag-asa Youth Rehabilitation Center and the Women and Children Crisis Center that are both located in Barangay Sinalhan, City of Sta. Rosa, Laguna. Purposive sampling technique was used to pay attention to the information that the participants would give through in depth interview. Semi-structured type interviews were conducted to the participants to gather the information needed for the study. Analysis of data discussed the problem of the study: (1) What are the Lived experiences of the person taking care of the Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL) inside the rehabilitation center?, (2) What are the challenges of the house parents in handling Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL)?; and (3) What is the psychological implication of the findings to the profession of being a house parent? The emerged themes were categorized through thematic analysis. The study resulted that every house parents have their positive and negative experiences inside the center that also resulted with their opinion regarding the House Bill No. 505 or lowering the criminal age. The findings helped to emphasized that there is a need for more intervention for CICL inside the center and also revealed the implications regarding to guidance and counseling.
