Narratives of Incest-Rape Survivors: A Preventive Model and Program

In the quest of preventing the prevalence of incest-rape, this endeavor used the grounded theory that primarily aimed to construct its own theory to explain why incest- rape is happening in the context of the Filipino Family. Seventeen (17) victim-survivors and eleven (11) family members who met the set criteria participated in this study. By employing content and thematic analyses, results showed that even before the disclosure of the incident of incest-rape, the families of the participants had already struggled in terms of their socio-economic status, family structure, and relationship among their members. In addition, there were familial beliefs and practices that have contributed in the prevalence of incest-rape. After the disclosure, the family of the participants eventually disintegrated despite of the coping strategies that were exercised by the members of the family. Based on the findings of the study, a contextualized prevention framework and a comprehensive program were developed to capture what the Filipino family system really needs in order to prevent incest-rape from happening.
