The Development of a Brigada Eskwela Program Implementation Model

Brigada Eskwela is a weeklong community service in which the stakeholders’ participation were the highlights. The program brings together teachers, parents, and community members to work together in repairing public schools in preparation for the school opening. This study aims on determining the best practices of the best implementer schools in the implementation of the Brigada Eskwela Program under the umbrella of Adopt-A-School Program of the Department of Education. The experiences of the school principals and the coordinators are also identified. Data were gathered through triangulation method wherein six (6) principals and six (6) teacher-coordinators were purposively selected to participate in the qualitative interview. Moreover, six (6) stakeholders have also joined in the focus group discussion. The instruments were validated by experts in the field. In addition, the Brigada Eskwela accomplishment reports of the participating best implementing schools have undergone document review. Findings in the study showed that the best implementing schools can be described in terms of improved facilities, awards received and generated resources. Also, their practices vary from different areas of the Brigada Eskwela program which have emerged as the contributing factors in recognizing them as best implementers. In the implementation of Brigada Eskwela program, challenges are unavoidable. Best implementing schools have faced challenges on time constraints and scarcity of resources as well as limited stakeholders involvement. From the result of the study, the researcher saw the need to propose an implementation model that can guide other schools in implementing the Brigada Eskwela program and possibly make them best implementing schools. It is suggested that the proposed implementation model may serve as a springboard in formulating new and relevant education policies related to Brigada Eskwela program and may also be integrated in graduate courses for educational leadership and management students to update them with regard to program implementation in schools.
