Assessment of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Integration in Teaching Selected High School Subjects: Basis for an ICT Integration Program
Synopsis
The study assessed the information and communications technology (ICT) integration inteaching math, science, English, Filipino, social studies, and Christian living, and identifiedissues affecting technology integration. It was conducted in school year 2015-2016 andparticipated by 43 high school faculty members teaching the aforementioned subjects in the highschool department of Don Bosco Technical Institute-Makati City. The instrument used in thisstudy was a researcher-made instrument with a five-point Likert rating scale. It was validated by seven experts, and its reliability was tested using test-retest method and Cronbach alpha forinternal consistency. The weighted means of each indicator and subject area, including theoverall mean in the survey, were computed. Likewise, the mean for every area was computedincluding the overall rating.
The results showed that the status of technology integration in Don Bosco TechnicalInstitute-Makati City is well-implemented. However, teachers needed time to planand prepare technology-based instructional materials and update their skills in technology andpedagogy. They also needed to be supervised closely through feedback and mentoring. In termsof professional advancement, they needed to be updated and trained on curriculum development,pedagogy, and technology. Equipment and facilities needed to be increased, improved, andmaintained, most especially the internet connection.
