Synopsis

Students face different issues inside and outside the school. Students are considered to be very vulnerable population. Students experience depression and suicidal thought. With this reason, there is a need for guidance counselors but there are only few licensed guidance counselor in the country. BSMA is a program is an answer to the lack of professional guidance counselor but before entering the professional world; a study was conducted to know if they are ready and capable. The researcher investigated the difference among BSMA and regular psychology program for burnout and stress. Oldenburg Burnout Inventory, Academic Stress Scale and Perceived Workload Questionnaire were administered to three different universities from Manila, (2) state-university and private university, consisted of 50 BSMA psychology students, 33 BS psychology students (public) and 41 BS psychology students (private). The result indicated, as expected, significant difference for burnout between BSMA and regular psychology program but stress showed no significant difference. This bespeak that students from BSMA psychology program experienced burnout the most. Understanding the occurrence and effect of burnout within BSMA psychology program will support the faculty and administration to better educate the students via curriculum planning. This will also help other programs in the universities help its students since everybody is susceptible to mental exhaustion. Different interventions and techniques should be given to students to better cope with the demands and requirements needed to accomplish.
