The Experience of Growing Up in a Pastor’s Home: A Narrative Study

This narrative study gathered ten (10) pastors’ children as the participants, aged fifteen (15) to seventeen (17) years old. The said participants resides in selected areas of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Metro Manila through the use of purposive and snowball sampling method. Semi-structured interviews and journals were administered to the participants to determine the needed information for the study. Interview with key informants was also administered. Key informants are composed of the fathers of the participants who are pastors. Data analysis showed and discussed the objectives of the study: (1) determine the stories of pastors’ children growing up in a pastor’s home, (2) describe the children’s views in being a pastor’s child. The emerged themes were categorized according to the stated objectives. The study revealed that there are different experiences or stories of the participants that show both positive and negative sides in being raised in a pastor’s home. The findings emphasized the need for further research of the topic. Further research on the topic will help to better understand the involved participants. Moreover, the findings helped in making a suggested intervention for the participants and its kind and also revealed its implications with regards to counseling.
