Writing is an essential skill that everyone has to develop because it is also our medium in expressing our thoughts and opinions. Writing says to be the end output of the macro skills, that’s why to train and develop the skill, writing is taught from primary school to tertiary level. However, errors in writing are still prevalent among students. Hence, the researcher sought to identify the common errors and proficiency level in composition writing of the students as a guide in developing suggested materials in teaching. Descriptive design was used by the researcher to describe the common errors and level of proficiency in composition writing of the students. Tally sheet and ESL Composition Rubric were used to identify the common errors and proficiency level in composition writing. The researcher studied the 60 compositions of the students that were divided into two groups; the first group was exposed to social networking sites while the other group was not. Survey questionnaire was used to identify the respondents who were exposed and not exposed to social networking sites. Based from the results, both groups had grammatical errors, i.e wrong usage of pronoun, tenses of verb, conjunctions, complex and erroneous sentences; and errors in mechanics i.e. wrong usage of capital letters, spelling, punctuations, and writing paragraph. Both groups' proficiency level was found to be fair to poor. Also, the frequency of using social networking sites has no significant relationship in their proficiency level in composition writing. From the results, it showed that developing a module in writing is a need to address to lessen and to avoid errors in composition writing among students
