Towards Enhancing the School Climate of a Private Sectarian School

Enhancing the school climate of a private sectarian school through a strategic plan was the main concern of this descriptive study. The plan was developed based on the findingsof the study which centered on determining the strengths and weaknesses in school climate of the target institution, Mount Carmel School of Infanta. Involving a total of eight (8) school leaders/managers, eighteen (18) secondary school teachers, twelve (12) staff members, one hundred ninety-two (192) high school students and one hundred eighty (180) parents, this study made use of the Adapted Comprehensive School Climate Inventory to gather the data needed. This instrument consisted of four major dimensions of school climate, namely, 1) safety, which includes physical and social-emotional safeties; 2) teaching and learning with four aspects –quality of instruction, social, emotional, ethical learning, professional development and leadership; 3) relationship with three elements such as respect for diversity, community and collaboration and morale; and 4) environment which deals on environmental-structural. A five-point Likert scale was used to determine and describe the respondents’ perceptions of the schoolclimate, data from which were treated with descriptive statistics including percentage and weighted mean for analysis.
