Follow-up Study Descriptive Design
Synopsis
The follow-up study investigates individuals who have left an institution after having completed a program, a treatment, or a course of study. The study concerns what has happened to them and what impact the institution and its program has had on them. By examining them status or seeking their opinions, one may get some idea of the adequacy or inadequacy of the institution's program. Which courses, experiences, or treatments proved to be of viue? What proved to be ineffective or of limited value? Studies of this type enable an institution to evaluate various aspects of its program considering actual results. Researchers also are interested at times in finding out what happened to the participants in an earlier intervention. - Best & Kahn’s Research in Education (2016).
Let’s explore one of the classifications of quantitative research which is “Follow-up study”. This video will focus on its meaning and characteristics. The follow-up study focuses on the aftereffects of an intervention to the participants. A Follow-up study doesn’t aim to create a new study but to make a new one anchored to a previous study. With this one, we are going to discuss the possible challenge and advantages of a follow-up study in the world of research.
