Ethical Issues to Anticipate in Quantitative Research

Advances in human health and welfare depended mainly on research that involves human subjects. Research on humans that were properly controlled, led to many new learnings, cures for diseases, proper treatment , and more understanding of human behavior. Unfortunately, not all studies are justifiable and useful. This led to different government institutions and agencies to come up with rules and regulations. A researcher must always bear in mind that he has a basic obligation to act with academic, methodological and ethical credibility. The report focused on the Seven Ethical Requirements for Quantitative and Qualitative Research in Nursing: Experiences of Three Research Ethics Committees from Santiago, Chile (2017). Ezekiel Emanuel proposes seven requirements that all research on human beings must comply with. These 7 requirements are as follows: (1) Social value, (2) Scientific Validity, (3) Equitable selection of Participants, (4) Favorable risk-benefit ratio, (5) Independent Assessment, (6) Informed Consent, and (7) Respect of Research Participants. Conducting quantitative research entails a lot of ethical consideration. Concern is not only on integrity of documentation and data management but ethics towards participants. The rights and well-fare of any human participants must be well protected. Those who have been entrusted with research are under basic obligation to act with academic, methodological and ethical credibility.
