Synopsis

This study aims to fill the gap in the literature by developing a teaching package anchored on Biffle’s WBT Strategy to address the challenges in learning Molecular Biology. The teaching package was developed following the K to 12 learning competencies and is then validated by three content experts in molecular biology. It was implemented to fifteen grade 12 senior high school (SHS) students for five days in order to determine if there is an improvement on student’s academic achievement and engagement after the intervention. Results revealed that the content expert in Biology positively perceived the teaching module based on the validation results and it is suitable tool in teaching Molecular Biology. The results of two tailed paired samples t-test exposed that the developed Whole Brain teaching package is effective in increasing the academic achievement. Students’ facets of engagement revealed that after the use of the Whole Brain Teaching Package on Molecular Biology were significantly more engaged than before they were exposed to the developed teaching package. This means that WBT package is effective in improving the engagement of grade 12 senior high school students.
