Development of Teacher Morale Instrument and Program
Synopsis
This descriptive developmental research examined the teacher morale such as Identification, Belongingness, and Rationality of elementary teacher of Area 4 in Batangas Province Division. A validated instrument was developed by the researcher, from a total of 243 initial participants and 775 verifying participant samples who responded accurately to the Teacher Morale Scale. The results became the bases for designing a proposed teacher morale enhancement program. The study used statistical treatments, such as factorial analysis, internal consistency, descriptive estimates, and stanine scores. Specifically, findings show that there are three (3) factors affecting teacher morale and they are Identification, Belongingness, and Rationality. Using the factors as bases, 51 out of 60 initial items of the scale are deemed valid and reliable indicators of Teacher Morale as revealed in the validation results. When used, it further unveils that most of the participants have an average level of teacher morale. Focusing on the indicators with ‘below average level results’, such as the teachers’ medical needs and familial roles, their instructional needs and familial-organizational goals and instructional need sufficiency and learning assessment as teachers’ priority, the enhancement program is designed. For future research, it is recommended to utilize the validated scale and implement the proposed program, to evaluate their effectiveness in contributing to the morale development of teachers leading to a more productive workplace in the academe.
