A Model of an Outstanding Mathematics Teacher
Synopsis
This study explored the characteristics of the outstanding mathematics teachers in the Schools Division of Valenzuela City, as perceived by the teachers themselves and their principals, master teachers, head teachers and students. Using a sociocultural perspective as theoretical basis, this study examined the pedagogical practices of the outstanding mathematics teachers from the viewpoint of six outstanding mathematics teachers, six mathematics master teachers, six head teachers of mathematics and three hundred students through a modified questionnaire. The outstanding mathematics teachers' beliefs, knowledge, and teaching practice were also investigated through semi-structured interview with the objective of gaining an indepth understanding of outstanding mathematics teachers. Classroom observations were also undertaken to bring out the deepest perspective, characteristics and belief of the outstanding teachers towards mathematics within the principles of classroom situation.
