Error Pattern Analysis of Solving Problems in Probability as Basis for Remedial Intervention
Synopsis
The main purpose of the study was to describe and analyze the errors encountered by the students in solving open-ended problems in Probability using Newman Error Analysis. This study used descriptive-qualitative method to analyze the solution given by the students. The researcher developed and validated a diagnostic test in Probability which is composed of 16 items and divided into four subtopics namely: (1) Addition Rule, (2) Complement Rule, (3) Multiplication Rule, and (4) Conditional Probability. The participants of the study are the 219 freshmen students taking up Bachelor of Elementary Education and Bachelor of Secondary Education in Cavite State University who are enrolled in the subject MATH 6 - Contemporary Mathematics. To determine the representative samples, simple random sampling was used.
