Students' Perceived Environment, Attitudes, And Performance Skills in Chemistry Laboratory

Synopsis

This causal-correlation study assessed the impact of students' perceived laboratory environment and attitude towards chemistry laboratory on their laboratory performance skills. Collected data from the 109 Grade 10 students were subjected to statistical analysis using the Pearson r and regression analysis. Findings revealed that there were positive significant correlations between students' perception, attitude, and performance skills towards chemistry experiments. Using statistical data, the researcher found that the presence of a favorable laboratory environment and having positive attitude towards experiment can bring in more positive results to the performance of laboratory skills of the students. Furthermore, the results showed that students' attitude and perception towards chemistry laboratory could predict their performance skills during experiments. The study contest chemistry teachers to foster students' interest as they perform experiments to ensure quality of work and skillsperformance. Rules in laboratory must always be clear to students to create a sense of predictability of doing what is supposed to be done in order to avoid consequences that may affect student's behavior and performance.
