Communications Management, Teacher Performance and Student Achievement in a City Schools Division

The Communications Management of school managers in the City Schools Division of Cavite City was assessed and its relationship to teaching performance and student achievement constituted the main concerns of this descriptive research. With the use of both quantitative and qualitative research methods, this study, which was participated in by ten (10) department heads, fifty nine (59) secondary school teachers and two hundred fifty four (254) graduating high school students from selected secondary schools in the Division of Cavite City, employed a validated researcher made questionnaire to assess the communications management of the school managers in terms of the nature of communications and communications process; used documentary analysis in describing the teachers' performance and students' academic performance. Data from the foregoing were used to determine if indeed communication for management of school managers was correlated with both teaching performance and students' academic achievement as indicated in their GPA and NAT results. Results of the study revealed a very satisfactory assessment of the school managers' communications management which was also found out to have correlation
with both teaching performance and students' academic achievement. Considering the results of this study, a communications management improvement plan and observation guide was developed to help enhance the school managers' communications management and provisions for trainings were identified to make them more effective in managing communications in their respective schools which is partly their instructional and administrative leadership functions.
