Development of Harmonized Framework for the Trilogic Functions of the University: Research, Instruction And Extension (A Round Table Discussion)

With the growing recognition of the critical role of extension in the performance of higher education institutions (HEIs), the need for a harmonized framework for instruction, research and extension is even greater with the demands for relevance and responsiveness becoming stronger. The expectations have been laid out by the national government as HEIs are enjoined to help in realizing the national development goals. This would mean ensuring that knowledge generated through instruction is translated into project deliverables through research which are then offered to the community as extension programs. With extension closely interfaced with instruction and research, higher institutions of learning are able to directly contribute to nation-building and toward social transformation. This technical report presents the results of the round table discussion (RTD) on the development of harmonized framework for the trilogic functions of the University: instruction, research, and extension (IRE) which was conducted through the Educational Policy Research and Development Center (EPRDC), the research arm of the University, on February 5, 2016 at the Alumni Relations Hall.
